Iranian Christian Refugee Begs Council to Block Islamic Center

An Iranian Christian refugee stood before the McKinney, Texas, City Council and identified himself as a “Sharia law survivor” while urging officials to reject a proposed 5-acre Islamic center. Speaking at the August 4, 2026, meeting, the man shared personal experiences from Iran and warned that the project could bring unwanted cultural and legal influences into the community. His emotional testimony became one of the most closely watched moments of the hearing. More than 100 residents also delivered heated public comments, many echoing concerns about Sharia and the scale of the development.

Despite the volume of opposition, the council voted unanimously to approve the McKinney Islamic Association’s site plan.
