The United States has accelerated its military repositioning toward the Middle East with the arrival of six F-22 Raptor stealth fighters at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk, England, serving as a staging point for a full squadron deployment. Additional aircraft from the 1st Fighter Wing at Langley Air Force Base are expected to join them, bringing the total to twelve before the formation proceeds to forward operating locations in the region later this week.

The movement of the Raptors follows closely on the heels of an earlier deployment of eighteen F-35A stealth fighters from the same installation, part of a broader surge that flight tracking data indicates now includes more than fifty U.S. tactical aircraft, among them F-16 multirole fighters.
