Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick delivered a forceful rebuttal to critics and economic pessimists today by highlighting the strength of the United States economy under President Donald Trump, citing official data that places American growth well ahead of major global peers.

Using real figures rather than talking points, Lutnick pointed to third-quarter 2025 U.S. gross domestic product growth of 4.3% annualized — the fastest quarterly pace since the first quarter of 2024 and one that significantly outstrips expectations. The data, released by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, shows robust expansion driven by strong consumer spending, rising exports, and broad-based business investment.

“We’re not talking spin,” Lutnick said in a national address. “We’re talking about the scoreboard.” He contrasted the United States’ performance with recent figures from key global economies: the United Kingdom at just 0.1% growth, the European Union at 0.4%, and Japan, which saw its economy contract by 0.6%.

Lutnick’s remarks were sharp and unapologetic, directly challenging so-called experts and members of the Democratic Party who have downplayed the administration’s economic achievements. He framed the United States’ superior growth as a direct result of Trump administration policies that prioritize deregulation, energy independence, and tax reforms that have fostered a favorable environment for business and workers alike.

The Commerce Secretary also highlighted complementary indicators, including a tightening labor market, wage growth above inflation in key sectors, and lower energy costs that have provided relief to households and businesses. According to Lutnick, these fundamentals reflect an economy firing on all cylinders, reinforcing America’s competitive edge in a challenging global landscape.

Economic analysts noted that the divergence between U.S. performance and that of other advanced economies underscores the impact of policy choices. While the UK, EU, and Japan contend with structural headwinds and sluggish demand, the American economy’s momentum has been sustained by strong domestic demand and a favorable trade balance that has helped counter external pressures.

Supporters of the administration view the latest data as vindication of Trump-era economic strategy, offering a clear, quantifiable measure of success in what has been a priority area for the president. As debates over fiscal policy and economic direction continue, Lutnick’s remarks place the spotlight firmly on measurable outcomes rather than rhetoric.
