Four teenagers are dead after a high-speed police chase in Chicago ended when their vehicle careened off a bridge and slammed into a parked freight train car early Wednesday morning. Chicago police say the pursuit began around 2 a.m. after officers responded to a report that someone inside a vehicle had pointed a gun at another driver. When officers located the car and attempted a traffic stop, the driver sped off instead of pulling over, setting off a chase through the city's streets.

During the pursuit, police say the driver lost control of the vehicle, sending it off a bridge and into a nearby train yard, where it collided with a stationary freight car. Three of the four occupants were pronounced dead at the scene, while a fourth, a young woman, was rushed to a hospital in critical condition before later succumbing to her injuries. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office has since identified the deceased as Cristofer Lopez Montan, 19, Yuarem Garcia-Pena, 18, Yaritza Martinez Villeda, 17, and Vanessa Morales, 14.

The deaths of four young people, including a 14-year-old, in a single incident have left the community shaken, and questions remain about the exact sequence of events that led the driver to lose control. Authorities have not yet released further details on the department's pursuit policies or whether the chase will undergo internal review, which is standard practice following fatal police pursuits. As investigators continue piecing together what happened on the bridge, the loss of four young lives in the span of a single chase stands as a sobering reminder of how quickly such situations can turn tragic.
