What started as a bizarre, almost cinematic robbery on an Egyptian highway ended in real bloodshed after a six-member gang stole 105 kilograms of frozen chicken from a moving truck, only to be tracked down by police in a shootout that left three of them dead. The heist took place on August 25 along the Cairo-Ismailia Desert Road, where the gang used a pickup truck to pull directly alongside a refrigerated lorry carrying roughly four tons of poultry. According to witnesses and video footage, one of the men climbed onto the truck's hood while both vehicles were still speeding down the highway, then pried open the rear doors to begin passing boxes of frozen chicken over to accomplices in the pickup. The entire operation, stolen goods and all, was carried out without the truck driver ever noticing something was wrong.

The theft only came to light after a passing motorist filmed the daring stunt and the footage exploded across social media, drawing comparisons to Hollywood action sequences and the Fast and Furious film franchise. It wasn't until the video went viral that the trucking company realized any chicken was even missing, since the driver had continued on his route completely unaware. Out of the roughly four tons of poultry onboard, the thieves managed to make off with about 105 kilograms before disappearing from the scene. The audacity and precision of the theft, executed entirely at highway speed, quickly became the centerpiece of online conversation across the region.

Egyptian authorities wasted little time identifying the suspects, who reportedly had prior criminal histories tied to armed robbery and drug-related offenses. Investigators traced the gang to hideouts in Cairo and the nearby Qalyubia governorate, setting up an operation to make arrests. According to Egypt's Interior Ministry, the confrontation quickly turned violent when the suspects allegedly opened fire on officers attempting to detain them, sparking a shootout. By the time the exchange ended, three of the six gang members were dead, while the remaining three were taken into custody and now face charges including armed robbery and firing at police.

In the aftermath, police recovered the pickup truck used in the heist, several weapons including automatic rifles and a shotgun, and at least some of the stolen chicken itself. Officials say the case highlights broader concerns beyond just the theft's shock value, since food safety experts note that breaking open a refrigerated truck's cargo hold, even briefly, can disrupt the temperature controls needed to keep frozen goods safe for consumption. What began as a strange, almost comedic viral moment ultimately turned into a serious criminal case, with authorities treating the incident as a violent armed robbery rather than a simple prank or petty theft.
