YouTuber Benn Jordan, known online as Vsauce2, has revealed serious security vulnerabilities in Flock Safety’s surveillance cameras. In a December 2025 video, Jordan, with support from investigative journalists, demonstrated that unsecured admin interfaces allowed public access to live and archived feeds for up to 31 days across dozens of U.S. locations. These findings highlight the risks posed by widely deployed surveillance systems when basic security measures are neglected.

Flock Safety, which operates more than 90,000 AI-powered cameras for neighborhood and law enforcement monitoring, was found to have nearly 70 exposed devices. The vulnerabilities include new "Condor" models capable of auto-zooming on people, making it possible to collect license plate and facial data without consent. Experts warn this creates a significant risk of doxxing and unauthorized surveillance of private individuals.

The revelations emphasize growing concerns about mass surveillance in the United States. Unencrypted footage exposes private activities, from family outings to solitary moments, amplifying privacy erosion. A 2023 report from the ACLU noted that 80% of U.S. cities have expanded camera networks despite known hacking risks, highlighting systemic issues in public and private surveillance deployment.

Privacy advocates argue that incidents like this demonstrate the urgent need for stricter security standards and accountability. With AI-powered cameras capable of detailed tracking, the potential for misuse increases dramatically when systems remain unprotected. Jordan’s video has sparked discussion among both citizens and policymakers about the balance between public safety and civil liberties.

As surveillance technology continues to evolve, the Flock Safety case serves as a cautionary example. Experts stress that robust cybersecurity protocols, regular audits, and transparency are essential to protect individuals from unintended exposure. Without such measures, the erosion of privacy and trust in public surveillance systems is likely to continue.
