The U.S. Coast Guard says the debris field discovered during the search for a missing medical transport plane off the coast of Nantucket spans roughly 80 to 90 feet across, offering investigators their first real physical trace of the aircraft since it vanished. Right now, we're really just focused on finding the people, officials said, underscoring that locating the six people aboard remains the top priority even as crews work the scene. The plane, a Gulfstream G100 medical transport flying from Bermuda to Boston, lost contact with air traffic controllers early Saturday morning roughly 20 miles off Nantucket Island. Four Canadian nationals and two Bermudians were aboard at the time.

Officials say the sheer amount of debris scattered across the search area is making it difficult to say with certainty exactly what crews are seeing out on the water, complicating efforts to assess the scene even as search assets continue combing the area. Coast Guard air and surface teams, including helicopters, cutters, and fixed-wing aircraft, along with support from the New York Air National Guard, have been working around the clock since the plane first disappeared. The search has covered thousands of square miles of ocean, reflecting the scale of the operation as crews race to locate any survivors. Coast Guard officials say a full investigation into what caused the aircraft to go down will follow once search and rescue efforts are complete.
