President Donald Trump has doubled down on his call to revive the historic name “Department of War,” saying it would symbolize American power and resolve.

“I think it sends a message of victory... really a message of strength — we’re very strong. We’re much stronger than anyone would really understand,” Trump said while explaining the reasoning behind the proposal.

The Department of War, established in 1789, oversaw U.S. military operations through World War II before being reorganized into the Department of Defense in 1949. Trump argues that returning to the original name would project a stronger image to both allies and adversaries.

Supporters believe the move could restore a sense of boldness and clarity to America’s military identity. Critics, however, warn that such a change could be perceived as aggressive in an already tense global environment.

While no formal steps have been announced, Trump’s remarks have already sparked debate over whether rebranding the Pentagon would be purely symbolic or carry broader policy implications.
