President Donald Trump issued a forceful response following the tragic shooting at Fort Stewart Army Base in Georgia, where five soldiers were wounded on Wednesday. In a nationally televised statement, Trump confirmed that the suspect — an active-duty Army sergeant — had been apprehended and would face full prosecution.

“The shooter is now in custody and the Army Criminal Investigation Division is on site to ensure that the perpetrator of this atrocity — this betrayal of the uniform — will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” Trump said from the White House Briefing Room.

The president condemned the attack as a "horrific act of violence committed against our brave men and women in uniform" and extended his thoughts and prayers to the injured soldiers and their families.

“The entire nation is praying for the victims, their loved ones, and the entire Fort Stewart community during this difficult time,” Trump added. “We are grateful to the troops who acted heroically to subdue the shooter and prevent further bloodshed.”
