FBI Director Kash Patel announced a sweeping federal crackdown in Ohio after authorities dismantled what officials describe as a major fraud network involving tens of millions of dollars in stolen public funds. Speaking during the announcement, Patel said individuals working across government and private-sector roles allegedly exploited COVID-19 relief, small business aid, and child services programs to siphon off taxpayer money intended for vulnerable Americans.

The joint federal operation, led alongside Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, resulted in criminal charges against 14 individuals connected to schemes authorities say defrauded approximately $50 million. Investigators allege that some suspects billed for services that were never provided, including a single case involving roughly $30 million in fraudulent claims tied to state-level operations.

Officials also confirmed the seizure of substantial assets, including approximately $470,000 in cash and multiple luxury vehicles such as Bentleys and Lamborghinis, which investigators say were purchased with illicit proceeds. Authorities described the operation as an early step in a broader federal-state effort to recover stolen funds and aggressively target large-scale public assistance fraud.
