Vice President JD Vance is sounding the alarm about a very online problem threatening his party's midterm chances: what he calls blackpilling, the wave of defeatist, doom-laden pessimism spreading across social media among conservatives. In a recent interview, Vance argued that this creeping negativity, fueled by frustration over the economy, foreign policy, and other bumps in the Trump administration's record, could quietly convince disillusioned Republicans to simply stay home in November. Rather than dismissing that frustration outright, Vance leaned into it, acknowledging there is real work left to do while insisting that checking out of politics is exactly the wrong response. His message was blunt: stay engaged, stay in the fight, and do not let internet doom-scrolling talk you out of showing up to vote.
