President Donald Trump delivered a firm message to Democratic leaders Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries, saying he is open to meeting with them — but only under one condition: that they agree to reopen the government and allow Americans to return to work.

“I would like to meet with both of them,” Trump said, addressing reporters. “But I set one little caveat: I will only meet if they let the country open. The people want to go back to work.”

The President’s statement comes as the government shutdown continues to impact millions of Americans, with federal workers missing paychecks and vital services on hold. Trump emphasized that the standoff is not about politics, but about restoring stability and honoring the will of the people.

Republican lawmakers have echoed Trump’s stance, arguing that Democrats are prioritizing partisan battles over economic recovery. The White House has reiterated that the President remains ready to negotiate — but not at the expense of American livelihoods.

“Every day this shutdown continues,” one senior administration official noted, “it’s the American worker who pays the price, not Washington politicians.”
