A suspected robber was seriously wounded after an attempted ATM robbery in Jerusalem's Givat Shaul neighborhood turned violent Sunday evening.

The incident occurred on Kanfei Nesharim Street, where a man had just finished withdrawing cash when a suspect allegedly approached him with a knife and demanded the money.

According to reports from the scene, the armed civilian responded by drawing his pistol and firing at the suspected robber, seriously wounding him. The suspect was treated at the scene before being transported to Shaare Zedek Medical Center.

Police officers from the Moriah station launched an investigation and said their initial findings indicated that the shooting occurred during an attempted robbery. Police stressed that the incident was criminal in nature.

United Hatzalah founder Eli Beer subsequently highlighted the incident while discussing the broader question of how an armed civilian should respond when confronted by a knife-wielding attacker.
