Phillip Martin, a Tucson gun store owner, recounted that FBI agents recently visited his shop to review a set of photographs depicting 18 to 24 individuals linked to recent firearm purchases. The review was part of an ongoing investigation into the February 1 abduction of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, whose home security camera captured a masked suspect tampering with her doorbell.

During the meeting, Martin noted that one of the images shown by federal agents resembled the individual observed in the doorbell footage, which depicted a person wearing dark clothing, a backpack, and a distinctive holster. The FBI’s request reflects standard investigative procedures in cases where suspects may have legally or illegally acquired firearms, aiming to match potential purchasers with evidence recovered from crime scenes.

Guthrie’s abduction involved a ransom demand in Bitcoin, and law enforcement agencies have emphasized both the complexity and urgency of the case. The suspect’s movements captured on video have been analyzed for unique identifiers, clothing patterns, and possible digital traces, including the style and positioning of the firearm holster, to aid in identification.

The collaboration between local business owners and federal authorities highlights the investigative reach employed in high-profile kidnapping cases. Gun stores in the region have been cooperating with authorities under voluntary and legal frameworks, assisting with background checks, purchase records, and any leads that could connect suspects to the scene. Investigators stressed that such reviews are part of broader efforts to prevent further incidents and protect the public.

While the investigation continues, officials have not disclosed the identities of any potential suspects or confirmed whether the photo shown to Martin will result in immediate arrests. Law enforcement encourages anyone with additional information related to Guthrie’s abduction or suspicious activity in the area to contact the FBI or local police authorities.

The case has drawn widespread attention due to the victim’s age, the unusual ransom demand in cryptocurrency, and the combination of video evidence and digital tracking employed by investigators. Authorities are working to ensure that investigative steps, including the review of firearm purchase records, are thorough while maintaining legal compliance and protecting private information.
