A deadly construction accident unfolded outside Bangkok on Thursday when a crane collapsed over a busy highway, crushing vehicles and killing two people, according to reports. The incident occurred on the Rama II expressway, a major traffic artery, and was captured in dashcam footage showing the crane’s boom suddenly toppling into moving traffic with little warning.

The collapse sent shockwaves through commuters as debris slammed onto the roadway, flattening at least one vehicle and forcing others to stop abruptly. Emergency responders rushed to the scene to recover victims and secure the area, while authorities shut down portions of the expressway to prevent further danger.

The tragedy came just one day after an even more catastrophic incident in northeastern Thailand, where a construction crane plunged onto a passenger train in Sikhio. That accident derailed the train, killing 32 passengers and injuring at least 64 others, marking one of the deadliest infrastructure-related disasters in recent Thai history.

The back-to-back crane failures have raised urgent questions about construction safety standards, oversight, and enforcement across the country. Both incidents involved heavy equipment operating near active transportation corridors, amplifying the risks to the public when failures occur.

Dashcam footage from the Bangkok collapse underscores how rapidly the situation escalated, leaving drivers with no time to react. Experts note that cranes are among the most dangerous pieces of construction equipment when improperly installed, maintained, or monitored, particularly in densely populated or high-traffic areas.

As investigations begin, Thai authorities face growing pressure to explain how two major crane-related disasters could occur within 24 hours, and whether systemic failures in safety protocols or regulatory enforcement played a role. For now, the nation is left grappling with the human cost of these accidents and renewed calls for accountability in infrastructure development.
