New Jersey State Police in Riot Gear Enforce Curfew and Take Down Protester Outside Newark's Delaney Hall ICE Detention Center as Anti-Enforcement Chaos Spirals Into Its Fourth Night

New Jersey State Police officers in full riot gear were captured on video taking a protester to the ground outside Newark's Delaney Hall ICE detention center as they enforced a nightly curfew that authorities imposed after days of escalating unrest, projectile-throwing, and barricade fights that turned the area around the federal immigration facility into a war zone that law-abiding residents of Newark had absolutely no part in creating. The dramatic footage — shot at night under bright lights with the chaotic energy of a crowd refusing to comply — shows officers using shields and coordinated physical force to subdue a protester who had defied the curfew order, a scene that is playing out night after night as left-wing agitators use ICE detention operations as a flashpoint for their broader campaign to dismantle America's immigration enforcement system. Governor Mikie Sherrill deployed the state police specifically because local law enforcement needed reinforcement to restore order, and that decision was the right one — communities do not have to tolerate nights of mob behavior simply because the cause being protested is fashionable among progressive activists. The curfew will be enforced, and those who break it will face the consequences.

New Jersey State Police moved in with riot shields to enforce the 9 PM curfew — taking at least one protester to the ground as crowds refused to disperse outside the ICE detention facility for yet another night of unrest.

The protests were triggered by a hunger and labor strike launched by approximately 300 detainees inside Delaney Hall beginning May 22, 2026, with detainees and their outside supporters claiming poor living conditions, inadequate medical care, and what they describe as exploitative labor practices at the facility. While those claims are being investigated through proper legal and administrative channels — as they should be — the appropriate response to grievances about a detention facility is litigation, oversight requests, and engagement with elected officials, not nights of mob violence, projectile attacks on law enforcement, and the deliberate blockading of a federal facility. The outside agitators who have seized on this situation to manufacture nightly confrontations with police are not advocates for the detainees — they are opportunists using vulnerable people as props in a political theater production designed to undermine the Trump administration's immigration enforcement agenda. Their tactics have consequences for the very community they claim to be defending.
