Lebanese Army Deploys in Southern Lebanon Pilot Zone After Israeli Forces Withdraw

Lebanese army troops have started deploying in the town of Zawtar al-Gharbiyeh, marking an important development in one of the three initial pilot zones in southern Lebanon. This move follows the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the area as part of coordinated efforts to stabilize the region. Zawtar al-Gharbiyeh stands out as the only village in the first phase of the program that was previously occupied by Israel.

The deployment of the Lebanese Armed Forces is designed to help restore government control and security in the south. This pilot program represents a practical step toward implementing agreements aimed at reducing tensions and preventing non-state armed groups from filling power vacuums. Officials hope the initiative will build confidence and pave the way for broader stability along the border.

This development aligns with ongoing diplomatic engagements, including recent discussions between President Trump and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun. By supporting the Lebanese military’s role and facilitating orderly withdrawals, these efforts contribute to long-term security for both Lebanon and Israel. The successful implementation of these pilot zones could mark meaningful progress toward lasting peace in a historically troubled region.
