Iran's IRGC-linked Fars News Agency claims Tehran's forces targeted 19 commercial vessels over two consecutive nights in the Strait of Hormuz, alleging the ships were using unauthorized routes through the critical waterway. According to the report, seven ships were targeted on the night of September 26, following 12 the night before, with Iranian state media framing the strikes as enforcement action against vessels ignoring Tehran's declared shipping restrictions. Fars reported that the attempted strikes have continued into the following day, with Iran reportedly launching cruise missiles and suicide drones from its southern regions at commercial ships south of the strait. As of this report, the origins and ownership of the targeted vessels have not been independently identified or confirmed.

The claims add to months of persistent friction in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most vital oil shipping corridors, where Iran has repeatedly warned that vessels transiting without its approval do so at their own risk. Previous incidents in the strait this year have included missile and drone strikes on commercial ships, the deployment of sea mines, and reported seizures of unmanned US Navy underwater vehicles, all against the backdrop of an ongoing, on-and-off conflict between Iran, Israel, and the United States. As with many of Iran's wartime claims, these latest reports come from state-linked media and have not yet been corroborated by independent maritime security firms, shipping companies, or Western governments. Given the strait's importance to global oil flows, any confirmed pattern of attacks on this scale would likely trigger renewed international pressure and could further disrupt already strained shipping traffic through the region.
