Israel's post-election fight just got louder. National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir posted a direct-to-camera video from his office, flanked by Israeli flags, demanding that the Shin Bet arrest everyone involved in what he calls a stolen election, including the heads of the Arab parties. He also declared that anyone not loyal to the State of Israel should be denied the right to vote. His claims follow the October 27 election, in which Arab-led parties made strong gains, and they echo allegations by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his party that the vote was tainted, an affair they have dubbed "Ra'amgate."

The allegations center on claims of vote-buying and foreign funding, with Qatar named in some of the accusations. The Central Elections Committee chair, Justice Noam Sohlberg, asked Shin Bet chief David Zini to investigate suspicions of foreign interference and report back within a week. Reports note that the politicians making the claims have not publicly provided evidence, and Ra'am has denied wrongdoing, including over three men police arrested on election day on suspicion of planning to pay voters. Arab party leaders and opposition figures have condemned the campaign as racist and an attempt to delegitimize Arab citizens, while Ben-Gvir's allies argue the matter is a test of Israel's security. For now, the big questions are what the Shin Bet investigation will find and how a restriction on voting rights could work in practice, since nothing in the reporting I found says it is moving forward.
