IDF Blows Up Hezbollah Launch Shaft Deep in Lebanon Security Zone

The Israel Defense Forces released dramatic aerial footage showing the destruction of a Hezbollah underground shaft in the security zone of southern Lebanon, with the operation credited to the IDF's 55th Brigade Combat Team. The video, captured through split-screen surveillance footage, shows a powerful explosion sending a thick plume of smoke rising over a rural, vegetated stretch of the security zone, with Hebrew-language captions confirming the targeted destruction of what the military described as a security-related basement shaft used by the Iran-backed terror group.

The strike is the latest in a sustained campaign by Israeli forces to dismantle Hezbollah's extensive underground infrastructure along the Lebanese border, an effort that has uncovered tunnel networks, weapons depots, and launch shafts built with what the IDF has repeatedly described as Iranian expertise and funding. In recent weeks, forces operating in the security zone have destroyed similar underground routes and command posts in villages including Majdal Zoun and Hadatha, uncovering hundreds of weapons, launch shafts aimed at Israeli territory, and fortified structures equipped with blast doors and living quarters, findings the military has cited as evidence of Hezbollah's continued efforts to rebuild despite the ongoing ceasefire.

Israeli officials have said troops will remain stationed in the security zone and continue operations to remove threats to communities in northern Israel, even as Hezbollah has shown repeated signs of attempting to reestablish its military footprint in the area. The IDF has stressed that Lebanon's military is expected to disarm Hezbollah under the terms of the current arrangement, but Israeli commanders have made clear they will continue independently targeting infrastructure they assess as an ongoing threat, a posture reflected once again in Sunday's strike on the underground shaft.
