President Donald J. Trump delivered a somber and forceful address to the nation tonight following what he described as a “horrific, ambush-style terror attack” on National Guardsmen in Washington, D.C., just steps from the White House. The President confirmed that two Guard members were critically wounded after being shot at point-blank range, calling the assault a monstrous act that targeted the very people responsible for keeping the nation safe.

In his remarks, President Trump revealed new information about the suspect now in custody. According to the best intelligence provided by the Department of Homeland Security, the attacker is a foreign national who entered the United States from Afghanistan—arriving in September 2021 as part of one of the controversial Biden-era evacuation flights. Trump emphasized that “nobody knew who was coming in” on those flights, describing Afghanistan at the time as “a hellhole on Earth” and holding the Biden administration responsible for allowing dangerous individuals to enter without proper vetting. He further highlighted that the suspect’s protected status in the U.S. had been extended under legislation signed by President Biden, a decision Trump argued enabled tonight’s attack.

The President’s address combined deep concern for the victims with a clear warning about the consequences of failed immigration and national-security policies. Trump vowed that his administration will pursue accountability, reinforce vetting procedures, and ensure that tragedies like this never happen again. He urged the nation to pray for the wounded Guardsmen and reaffirmed his commitment to defending American lives against foreign threats brought into the country through what he called reckless political decisions of the previous administration.
