Severe thunderstorms unleashed heavy rain across South Houston, triggering flash flooding that left cars trapped under an overpass and several intersections impassable.

The sudden downpour stalled out multiple vehicles, forcing drivers and passengers to wait for rescue as floodwaters rose around them. Emergency crews responded quickly, working to assist those stranded and redirect traffic away from the most dangerous areas.

Officials are warning residents to avoid travel until waters recede, stressing the importance of never attempting to drive through flooded roads. The National Weather Service continues to monitor conditions as more rain is possible in the region.

The flooding adds to ongoing concerns about storm preparedness and drainage systems in the Houston metro, an area frequently hit by severe weather events.
