The test confirmed the new multimode seeker can lock onto and engage relocating threats at sea, a major upgrade from Increment 1’s focus on fixed land targets. Officials report the missile flew the required profile, deployed protective covers, and gathered performance data while achieving the engagement. This capability extends the weapon’s effective reach beyond 500 kilometers and turns existing mobile launchers into sea-denial platforms without requiring new systems.

The successful demonstration has already translated into concrete production momentum. The U.S. Army followed the flight series with a $1.2 billion indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract covering initial procurement, continued development, and future orders of the Increment 2 missile through 2031. The program advances multi-domain operations by giving ground forces the ability to threaten moving ships and mobile land targets from dispersed HIMARS and M270 units.
