Morocco may be preparing a major leap in long-range firepower, with defense reports suggesting the country is weighing whether to integrate Israel Aerospace Industries' LORA ballistic missile system into the U.S.-made HIMARS launchers it is set to receive. LORA is built to strike targets between 400 and 500 kilometers away with reported accuracy under 10 meters, a leap far beyond the roughly 300-kilometer range HIMARS normally offers, and IAI markets it as combat-proven after Azerbaijan used the system extensively against Armenia in the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war. The system is guided by GPS and inertial navigation and is designed to hit fixed targets like air bases, command posts, and air-defense sites within minutes of a firing decision. IAI is expected to put LORA on display at next month's Marrakesh Air Show alongside other systems, a showcase that reports suggest could open the door to an eventual integration deal, though no contract has been publicly confirmed.

The reported interest fits a broader pattern of Morocco deepening its defense relationship with Israel since normalizing ties under the Abraham Accords, having already acquired Israeli-made Barak MX air defense systems and PULS rocket artillery. Morocco is also preparing to become the first North African nation to field HIMARS, with U.S. documents indicating ten of eighteen approved launchers are already under contract as part of 2027 fiscal year planning, while the remaining units are expected to follow later. IAI has not named a buyer, contract value, or delivery timeline for LORA, and has stressed only that its presence in Marrakesh is meant to support industrial cooperation and technology exchange with Morocco and the wider region. Still, for a country already stacking up advanced Israeli and American hardware, the prospect of marrying LORA's extended reach with HIMARS mobility would mark a significant jump in Morocco's strike capability if it ultimately goes through.
