China’s Foreign Ministry has rejected former U.S. President Donald Trump’s call to retake Afghanistan’s Bagram Air Base, stressing the importance of respecting Afghanistan’s sovereignty.

In a statement, Chinese officials said that foreign powers should avoid interfering in Afghanistan’s internal affairs and instead focus on supporting stability and development in the region.

Trump recently suggested that the United States should move to reestablish control of the strategic airfield, which was abandoned during the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021. His remarks sparked renewed debate over America’s role in Central Asia and the implications for regional security.

Beijing’s response underscores its stance against renewed foreign military involvement in Afghanistan, while also highlighting China’s interest in maintaining influence and stability along its western border.
