SpaceX is gearing up for what could be the most consequential Starship flight yet, targeting a launch as early as Tuesday, September 22, pending regulatory approval, with a 75-minute window opening at 7:15 a.m. Central time from Starbase in South Texas. Unlike all thirteen flights before it, which intentionally flew suborbital arcs and came back down within the same hour, Flight 14 is designed to send Starship into a genuine orbit around Earth for the first time. A newly released 54-second video montage shows the vehicle stacked on the launch tower, close-up shots of its Raptor engines, and dramatic nighttime static fire tests lighting up Starbase with massive exhaust plumes. If it flies, the mission will also deploy 26 third-generation Starlink V3 satellites, each adding a full terabit per second of network capacity, marking the first time Starship has carried a revenue-generating payload.

The flight represents the next phase in SpaceX's push toward a fully and rapidly reusable Starship system, a goal the company has poured billions of dollars into chasing. The Super Heavy booster will still attempt its own recovery at an offshore landing point in the Gulf, but SpaceX has confirmed it will not attempt to catch either the booster or the ship with the launch tower on this flight, with Elon Musk saying that ambition has been pushed back to avoid risking a costly setback. September 22 remains SpaceX's own internal target rather than a locked date, and the company has stressed that stacking, weather, range clearance, and final safety sign-off all still have to fall into place. Should it succeed, Flight 14 would mark a major turning point for the program, edging Starship closer to the kind of routine orbital operations SpaceX ultimately hopes will replace Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy altogether.
