President Donald Trump has renewed calls for federal oversight of elections in key states, citing alleged corruption in cities such as Detroit, Philadelphia, and Atlanta. Speaking publicly, Trump emphasized the need for transparency and accountability, stating, “I want to see elections be honest... take a look at Detroit, take a look at Philadelphia, you go take a look at Atlanta, look at some of the places with horrible corruption on elections — and the federal government should not allow that.”

The remarks align with the Republican-led SAVE Act (H.R.22), reintroduced in the 119th Congress, which mandates documentary proof of U.S. citizenship for federal voter registration. The legislation is aimed at addressing concerns over non-citizen voting and ensuring that federal elections are conducted with integrity.

Trump has repeatedly cited past controversies, including the 2020 election, to justify stronger federal safeguards. By highlighting cities with histories of alleged irregularities, he argues that federal oversight is necessary to prevent misconduct and restore public confidence in electoral outcomes.

Supporters of the SAVE Act and Trump’s election integrity agenda argue that requiring proof of citizenship for federal voter registration is a commonsense measure that protects the democratic process. Critics, however, warn that such policies could disproportionately affect minority voters and create unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles.

As the SAVE Act moves through Congress, the debate over federal oversight, election integrity, and voter access continues to intensify, with Trump positioning himself as a leading advocate for stricter safeguards and enforcement mechanisms to ensure honest elections nationwide.
