For a period of time immediately following his chasunah, the Rebbe kept two grueling eight-hour sedarim — one from after Tikkun Chatzos until the morning, and the second from midday until 8:00 p.m.

During that time, he also learned Choshen Mishpat with his shver. On one occasion, the two were learning together when they encountered a particularly difficult Shach. They toiled over the complex piece for hours, until his shver finally suggested they stop and continue trying to decipher the sugya the following day.

His shver went home, but the Ribnitzer remained in the Beis Medrash. Hours passed, and the Rebbe sat hunched over his Shulchan Aruch, relentlessly striving to uncover the true pshat in the Shach. The next morning, when his shver returned to the Beis Medrash, he found Reb Chaim Zanvil sitting in the exact same spot. The Ribnitzer proceeded to present his shver with a hafla'dige pshat on the Shach, masterfully breaking down every detail they had struggled with the day before.
