A Jewish businessman who says he walked away from years of work after confronting a serious kashrus concern has shared the remarkable journey that followed — one that eventually brought him to an unexpected moment of Shema Yisrael inside a monastery in India.

Yitzchak Finger recounted his story in a newly published Mishpacha Magazine profile, describing a life that had once revolved around a highly successful business enterprise before an encounter with Rav Yitzchak Zilberstein forced him to reconsider what he had built.

According to Finger's account, Rav Zilberstein examined the matter and immediately told him that it was “not kosher.”

For Finger, the implications were enormous. He describes realizing in a matter of seconds that the enterprise he had spent years building could no longer continue as before.

But walking away was only the beginning of a much longer personal journey.

Finger recounts eventually finding himself far from home, inside a monastery in the jungles of India. There, he says, he closed his eyes and called out Shema Yisrael.

He describes the moment as an intense physical and spiritual experience unlike anything he had previously felt.

The unusual journey ultimately became part of a broader return toward Torah and Yiddishkeit, transforming what initially appeared to be the collapse of the life he had built into a turning point in another direction.

Finger's account is featured in Mishpacha Magazine this week.
