Colombia's New President Joins Jewish Community for Rosh Hashanah in Barranquilla
Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella joined members of the country's Jewish community for Rosh Hashanah, visiting the Bet El Synagogue in Barranquilla during the celebration of the new year.
De la Espriella, who took office as Colombia's president last month, attended the Rosh Hashanah gathering at the shul and addressed those present.
During his remarks, the president expressed his support for Israel and spoke warmly about the Jewish people, according to footage from the gathering.
The Confederation of Jewish Communities of Colombia welcomed the president's participation, describing his presence at the Rosh Hashanah gathering as a gesture of closeness toward the country's Jewish community.
De la Espriella was sworn in on August 7 after winning Colombia's presidential election earlier this year, beginning a four-year term that runs through 2030.
