New Candidates Tested for Overseas Shechita Teams Amid Effort to Expand Kashrus System
Candidates seeking to join overseas kosher shechita teams underwent practical examinations as part of an effort to expand the pool of qualified professionals working in the imported-meat kashrus system.
The examinations included practical testing of shechita skills and knife inspection, key requirements for those seeking to work on teams responsible for producing kosher meat abroad.
The Chief Rabbinate's Foreign Slaughter Department oversees the teams operating at approved slaughterhouses overseas and authorizes their composition, including shochtim, inspectors and other kashrus personnel. The system currently operates across slaughterhouses in approximately ten countries.
According to information accompanying footage from the examinations, Rabbi Yosef Ben David and Rabbi Mordechai Galai participated in examining candidates. Rabbi Ben David serves as a member of the Chief Rabbinate's Foreign Slaughter Committee.
The initiative is aimed at approving additional professional teams for overseas shechita, strengthening the kashrus system while increasing capacity for kosher-meat production.
