A Porter Airlines Embraer E195-E2 arriving from Toronto experienced a runway excursion at Halifax Stanfield International Airport on the night of February 11, 2026. The aircraft, operating flight PD209, slid off runway 14/32 amid heavy snow, coming to rest in a snowbank as captured in real-time video footage showing emergency lights flashing around the aircraft.

Airport and airline officials confirmed that all 78 passengers and crew were safely evacuated. Passengers were escorted via mobile stairs and buses to the terminal, with no injuries reported. Emergency response teams, including airport fire and rescue units, were deployed immediately, highlighting the effectiveness of winter operations protocols and rapid mobilization procedures.

The runway excursion occurred during severe winter weather, which contributed to challenging landing conditions. Porter Airlines and Halifax Stanfield officials are cooperating to investigate the incident and determine contributing factors, including snow accumulation, braking performance, and runway surface conditions.

Despite the dramatic visuals, the swift response and evacuation ensured passenger safety, demonstrating coordinated emergency preparedness at Halifax Stanfield Airport. No airport personnel were injured, and operations resumed after the runway was cleared and inspected.

Authorities stressed that while runway excursions can pose serious risks, adherence to strict winter operation protocols and immediate deployment of emergency services minimized potential harm. Porter Airlines affirmed its commitment to passenger safety and is assisting investigators in reviewing the incident.
