Yemen's Houthi movement released footage on Saturday appearing to show a locally made ballistic missile striking a gathering of commanders linked to Saudi-backed mobilization forces, according to video distributed by the group's military media wing. The clip, shared by the Houthi-run Yemeni Military Media outlet and reviewed by the Jerusalem Post, shows what appears to be a missile launch trailed by fire, followed by an explosion and a large plume of smoke rising over a cluster of parked vehicles. Arabic text overlaid on the footage identifies the date as September 6, 2026, and states that the target was a meeting of Saudi-backed mobilization leaders. Three armored vehicles are shown destroyed in the aftermath, according to the Houthi statement accompanying the release.

The footage reportedly includes drone surveillance shots of the target area beforehand, showing armored vehicles and a pickup truck gathered in a desert location before the missile impact. Houthi media described the strike as precise, with the missile appearing to land directly within the area where the vehicles and personnel were gathered. The group has previously used similar drone-and-missile combinations in strikes across Yemen's contested provinces, often pairing aerial surveillance footage with the resulting explosion to publicize the accuracy of its attacks. As with most such releases, the exact location of the strike was not disclosed in the accompanying reports.

It's worth stressing that this account comes entirely from Houthi military media, and no independent verification of casualties or the identities of those present has been confirmed by Saudi-backed forces, the internationally recognized Yemeni government, or neutral observers. Both sides in Yemen's conflict routinely release competing claims and footage following clashes, making it difficult to establish a fully independent picture of what occurred, including whether any commanders were killed or injured in the strike. The Houthis have made similar claims in recent weeks, including a reported missile barrage on Saudi-backed positions near al-Mokha, part of a broader pattern of stepped-up attacks since fighting resumed.

This latest strike fits into a wider resurgence of violence in Yemen since July 2026, when the 2022 truce between the Houthis and Saudi-backed government forces effectively collapsed. Since then, the Houthis have repeatedly used missiles and drones against government-aligned forces in provinces including Marib, Hadramout, and Taiz, while Saudi-backed and coalition forces have continued their own strikes against Houthi positions elsewhere in the country. The renewed fighting marks a significant setback for a truce that had, for several years, brought relative calm to what has been one of the region's longest-running conflicts. With both sides continuing to trade strikes and competing claims, the prospects for a return to the ceasefire remain uncertain.
