A Chinese-origin DF-15 ballistic missile has been reportedly discovered in Marib, Yemen, sparking immediate speculation about its source. The Houthis are not known to operate this system and have long relied on Iranian-made missiles for their arsenal. The unexpected appearance of the DF-15 hardware in the region has led some observers to conclude it may represent Saudi Arabia’s first combat use of the more advanced DF-15A variant.

The find follows Riyadh’s previously documented secret purchases of Chinese ballistic missiles, including the older DF-3A and the more capable DF-21. Those earlier acquisitions already signaled a quiet expansion of Saudi long-range strike options beyond Western suppliers. The latest debris raises fresh questions about how deeply Chinese missiles have entered operational Saudi use, whether additional systems remain undeclared, and what this development means for the balance of firepower in Yemen’s ongoing conflict.
