ISIS Terror Plot Foiled: Israeli Indicted for Planning Nightclub Attack in Be’er Sheva

Israeli authorities have filed a serious indictment against a 20-year-old man accused of planning a deadly terror attack near a popular nightclub in Be’er Sheva. Abdullah Gargawi, a resident of the Bedouin town of Shagav Shalom, faces charges in the Be’er Sheva District Court for preparing an assault that could have caused mass casualties. According to the indictment, Gargawi began consuming ISIS propaganda online as early as 2022 and later made direct contact with operatives linked to the terrorist organization. One of those contacts even suggested he travel to Yemen or Afghanistan to join the group, while Gargawi himself explored plans to reach ISIS forces in Syria.

The plot centered on a car bomb attack near the Forum nightclub, a venue that regularly draws large crowds. Investigators determined that Gargawi took concrete steps to advance the scheme, including efforts to assemble explosives and other preparations for a vehicle-borne attack. Security forces, working jointly between the Israel Police and the Shin Bet, disrupted the plan before it could be carried out. The successful intervention underscores the ongoing vigilance required to counter radicalization that begins online and evolves into real-world threats inside Israel.

Gargawi’s case highlights the persistent danger posed by ISIS ideology even years after the group’s territorial defeat. Online content continues to radicalize individuals, drawing them into contact with foreign operatives and inspiring local attack planning. Israeli security services remain highly effective at identifying and neutralizing these threats before they materialize, protecting civilians in cities like Be’er Sheva. The indictment also includes related weapons offenses, reflecting a broader pattern of illegal arms possession tied to the suspect’s activities.

This foiled plot serves as a stark reminder that the fight against Islamist terrorism requires constant attention both at home and abroad. Israel’s security apparatus continues to demonstrate its capability to detect and stop such schemes at an early stage. As the legal process moves forward, the case reinforces the importance of robust intelligence and proactive enforcement in safeguarding the public from those who seek to bring ISIS-style violence to Israeli streets.
