Newly released footage from San Bernardino County emergency services reveals the scale of destruction left behind by severe flooding and mudslides in Wrightwood, California, after days of relentless rain. Homes and vehicles were buried under several feet of thick mud and debris, transforming residential streets into impassable landscapes of earth and wreckage.

The mudslides were triggered by heavy rainfall between December 24 and December 26, 2025, as saturated hillsides gave way under the pressure of prolonged storms. Video released Thursday afternoon by the San Bernardino County Fire Department shows entire properties partially submerged, with cars nearly unrecognizable beneath layers of mud and rocks.

Emergency crews responded to multiple incidents across the region as floodwaters surged through mountain communities. Wrightwood, located in the San Gabriel Mountains, was among the hardest hit due to its steep terrain and vulnerability to landslides following extended rainfall.

Statewide, the storms have been linked to at least four fatalities, according to national media reports, underscoring the broader impact of the severe weather system that swept through California during the holiday period. Authorities continue to assess structural damage while urging residents in affected areas to remain cautious as cleanup efforts continue.

While online speculation has circulated about potential seismic consequences following the storms, experts consistently note that earthquakes cannot be predicted and that rainfall-induced landslides, while destructive, do not provide reliable indicators of impending seismic events. Officials have emphasized the importance of focusing on verified risks, including unstable ground, additional slides, and ongoing flood hazards.

As recovery begins, local and state agencies are prioritizing debris removal, safety inspections, and assistance for displaced residents. The footage serves as a stark reminder of how quickly extreme weather can overwhelm communities, particularly in regions already prone to flooding and landslides.
