Globe Mining Town Flood Leaves Four People Dead.
At least four people have died after heavy rainfall triggered severe flooding across parts of Arizona, overwhelming communities and forcing dramatic rescues.
Three of the victims were in the historic mining town of Globe, where floodwaters on Friday swept through downtown, washing out a propane distributorship and scattering around 1,000 tanks. Residents were forced to climb onto rooftops to escape the rising waters.
Over 2.5 inches of rain fell in Globe—home to about 7,250 residents—within a 24-hour period. Another storm moved in on Saturday, forcing search efforts for potential missing persons to pause due to dangerously high creek levels.
Nearby, the town of Miami also experienced flooded streets on Saturday, though no injuries were reported. In addition, about 20 tourists stranded on the Havasupai Reservation—including visitors to the scenic Havasu Falls—were safely evacuated, according to the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
Emergency officials continue to monitor conditions as storms threaten to bring further rainfall to the already hard-hit region.
