Newly released surveillance footage from the October 19, 2025, heist at the Louvre Museum is shedding new light on one of the most audacious art thefts in modern European history. The never-before-seen video reveals how a small, coordinated team executed a highly efficient operation that lasted less than eight minutes and resulted in the theft of historic artworks valued at more than $102 million.

The footage shows two individuals wearing yellow safety vests moving confidently through a secured gallery, blending in as if part of routine maintenance staff. Within moments, they smashed reinforced display cases and removed eight priceless artifacts identified as French Crown Jewels, including the diamond crown of Empress Eugénie. The speed and precision of the operation suggest detailed advance planning and intimate knowledge of the museum’s security layout.

French authorities confirmed that the stolen items, valued at approximately €88 million, remain unrecovered. Although four suspects were arrested in the weeks following the robbery, prosecutors acknowledged as of mid-January 2026 that the jewels have not yet been located. Investigators believe the thieves intended to move the artifacts quickly into private collections or international black markets, complicating recovery efforts.

The newly released footage underscores significant vulnerabilities even in the world’s most renowned cultural institutions and has renewed scrutiny of museum security protocols across Europe. French officials have reaffirmed their commitment to recovering the stolen treasures and bringing all individuals involved in the operation to justice.
