The Israeli and Hellenic navies took to the Eastern Mediterranean this week for a high-intensity joint exercise, deploying two Greek frigates and two Israeli missile boats in a show of tightening military cooperation. Newly released footage captures the drill in motion, small boats cutting fast across the water, sailors running deck operations and weapons handling, flag signals passing between vessels, and the Israeli and Greek flags flying together aboard one ship as the sun set over the sea. Personnel from both fleets were exchanged during the drill, and crews worked through a demanding lineup of scenarios, including identifying and responding to maritime threats, running search-and-rescue operations, and managing emergency situations under pressure. The IDF said the goal was to sharpen interoperability between the two forces and strengthen their ability to operate as one unit if called upon.

The exercise lands amid a broader surge in defense collaboration between Israel and Greece, which has accelerated in recent months alongside rising friction between both countries and Turkey over influence in the Eastern Mediterranean. It follows Greece's multi-billion euro Achilles Shield agreement with Israel, a major air defense deal that has become a centerpiece of the two nations' expanding military partnership. Athens and Jerusalem have also been folding Cyprus into a wider trilateral security framework, ramping up joint air and naval drills and sharing expertise on modern threats ranging from drone warfare to conventional combat. With regional tensions showing no signs of easing, this week's naval drill serves as the latest signal that Israel and Greece intend to keep building out a tightly coordinated military relationship in one of the world's most contested maritime corridors.
