Utah Governor Spencer Cox has said that the family of Charlie Kirk will need to โ€œplay a roleโ€ in whether prosecutors pursue the death penalty against the man suspected of assassinating the Turning Point USA founder.

Speaking on Special Report, Gov. Cox discussed the ongoing investigation, noting that the suspectโ€™s actions reflect the โ€œdark cornersโ€ of social media where radicalization can thrive.

Kirk was killed on September 11, 2025, during a speaking event at Utah Valley University, a tragedy that has sent shockwaves across the political landscape. While the investigation continues, Cox emphasized that the wishes of the Kirk family will weigh heavily in the ultimate prosecutorial decision.

โ€œThe familyโ€™s voice matters in this process,โ€ Cox said, underscoring that the state must balance justice, accountability, and compassion.

The case remains under active review, with Utah authorities expected to announce further legal steps in the coming weeks.
