Spanish reporter Sergio Ovejero was live on ETB2 on Thursday, October 22, broadcasting from the seafront promenade in Ondarroa, in Spain's Basque Country, when the sea gave him a dramatic answer. He was warning viewers about the growing swell and the risks to pedestrians from the Cantabrian Sea storm. Moments later, a huge wave surged over the seawall and hit him and camerawoman Raquel, drenching both of them. The water covered the camera image and briefly cut the live feed.

In the studio, presenters voiced real concern, because for a few tense moments they had no idea what had happened to their colleagues. The mood changed once it was confirmed that both Ovejero and Raquel were safe and that it had only been a scare. The incident came just before conditions were expected to worsen on Friday, October 23, when Storm Austen put the Basque coast on alert for coastal and maritime risk, and authorities had already issued weather warnings for intense waves and winds. The clip has gone viral as a vivid reminder of how quickly the sea can turn when a storm is building.
