As the United States nears the longest government shutdown in its history, President Donald Trump is placing full responsibility on the Democratic Party for the ongoing stalemate. In remarks captured during an exchange with CBS, the President defended his administration’s repeated efforts to reopen the government, pointing to consistent Republican support in the Senate and Democratic obstruction as the primary cause of the crisis.

“Democrats’ fault,” President Trump said bluntly when asked who bears responsibility for the shutdown.
