As the United States nears the longest government shutdown in its history, President Donald Trump is placing full responsibility on the Democratic Party for the ongoing stalemate. In remarks captured during an exchange with CBS, the President defended his administration’s repeated efforts to reopen the government, pointing to consistent Republican support in the Senate and Democratic obstruction as the primary cause of the crisis.

“Democrats’ fault,” President Trump said bluntly when asked who bears responsibility for the shutdown. When pressed further on what his administration is doing to resolve the impasse, the President responded, “We keep voting… the Republicans are voting almost unanimously to end it, and the Democrats keep voting against ending it.”

The shutdown, now in its fifth week, has paralyzed key government services, furloughed thousands of federal employees, and cost the U.S. economy billions in lost productivity. Yet despite fourteen separate votes to restore government funding, Senate Democrats have repeatedly blocked every Republican-led effort, demanding spending increases and political concessions instead of accepting fiscally responsible reforms.

Trump’s remarks reflect growing frustration within the White House and among working Americans affected by the shutdown. Administration officials emphasize that the President’s position has remained consistent: Republicans have done their part to reopen the government, but Democrats are choosing politics over people.

The President’s message resonates with his America First base, who view the shutdown as a test of leadership and accountability. For Trump, the issue is simple — the Republican Party is voting to put Americans back to work, while Democrats continue to stall progress for partisan gain.

As the standoff threatens to surpass the longest shutdown in U.S. history, President Trump’s words cut through the political noise with characteristic directness: America is ready to move forward — it’s the Democrats who refuse to open the country.
