In a historic diplomatic move, the Prime Minister of Israel officially announced today that the State of Israel recognizes the Republic of Somaliland as an independent and sovereign state. The decision marks a major development in Israel’s foreign policy and reflects Jerusalem’s commitment to strengthening ties with stable and cooperative partners in strategically important regions.

The recognition was formalized through a joint and mutual declaration signed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, and the President of the Republic of Somaliland. The declaration affirms mutual respect, sovereignty, and the intention to build a strong bilateral relationship based on shared interests and regional stability.

As part of the announcement, Prime Minister Netanyahu extended an official invitation to the President of Somaliland to visit Israel, signaling the beginning of open and direct diplomatic engagement. The President of Somaliland welcomed the recognition, thanking the Prime Minister for what he described as a historic declaration and expressing appreciation for Israel’s leadership in combating terrorism and advancing regional peace.

The Prime Minister also publicly acknowledged the critical role played by Foreign Minister Sa’ar, Mossad Director David Barnea, and the Mossad in advancing the diplomatic process that led to today’s development. He conveyed his best wishes to the people of Somaliland, expressing hope for their continued success, prosperity, and freedom.

Looking ahead, Israel plans to immediately expand its relationship with Somaliland through extensive cooperation across multiple sectors. These include agriculture, health, technology, and economic development, areas in which Israel has global expertise and a proven record of innovation. Israeli officials emphasized that the partnership is intended to promote stability, growth, and opportunity for both nations.

The recognition of Somaliland underscores Israel’s broader strategy of forging alliances with responsible regional actors and reinforcing its role as a proactive force for security, development, and peace on the international stage.
