Tehran Mouthpiece Scoffs at Trump's Word, Threatens Two More Years of War

Iranian academic and regime-aligned commentator Mohammad Marandi declared this week that President Trump's signature "means nothing" to Tehran, laying bare the calculated Iranian strategy of stalling rather than negotiating in good faith. Marandi, a Tehran University professor and frequent mouthpiece for the Iranian government on Western media, told interviewers there is deep skepticism inside Iran that any agreement bearing Trump's name will hold, and suggested Tehran may simply run out the clock until his presidency ends. His remarks land as yet another confirmation that the regime has never had any real intention of honoring the diplomatic commitments it has repeatedly signed onto.

Marandi went further, floating the possibility that the current standoff, including unresolved tensions around the Strait of Hormuz and Iran's continued uranium enrichment, could stretch on for "well over two more years" as Tehran waits for a different occupant in the Oval Office. This rhetoric follows a now-familiar pattern from Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, who has separately branded Trump's signature "utterly worthless and devoid of credibility" after accusing Washington of violating the memorandum of understanding signed earlier this summer. The pattern is unmistakable: sign when convenient, stall when it serves the regime, and blame Washington the moment leverage shifts.

The comments reflect a distrust that traces directly back to the 2018 U.S. withdrawal from the JCPOA nuclear deal, a grievance Tehran has weaponized ever since to justify its own bad-faith maneuvering, continued enrichment activity, and support for regional proxy militias. Analysts note that Iran's playbook, treat every agreement as temporary while quietly preserving leverage, has remained remarkably consistent regardless of who occupies the White House. For an administration that has pushed hard for a lasting resolution, Marandi's comments are a blunt reminder that Tehran's hardliners remain far more interested in running out the clock than in building genuine peace.
