A Brazilian former paratrooper and volunteer named Lucas Cândido captured the terrifying moment a Russian missile struck the building he was inside in Kharkiv, Ukraine, as air raid sirens warned of incoming danger. In the footage, Cândido films himself indoors while speaking Portuguese, seemingly documenting the tense situation as the threat of an attack grows. Moments later, a powerful impact shakes the building, turning an ordinary recording into a firsthand account of a missile strike. The video then shows him surveying the interior damage before moving to nighttime scenes outside, where smoke, debris and flames can be seen around the damaged residential structure. Cândido and other Brazilian volunteers reportedly survived the incident with minor or no injuries, although the footage illustrates how quickly a warning can turn into a potentially life-threatening emergency.
The incident occurred during Russian attacks on Kharkiv on October 12–13, 2026, when residential buildings were reportedly struck, killing at least three civilians and injuring more than 15 others. Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, has repeatedly faced Russian bombardment during the full-scale war, with civilians living under the continuing threat of missiles, drones and other attacks. The footage offers a disturbing glimpse of the danger facing people inside buildings when a strike occurs, as even reinforced structures can sustain serious damage from a nearby or direct impact. Emergency responders and residents were seen using flashlights to navigate the darkened, debris-filled area as they assessed the destruction and searched through the aftermath. While the precise circumstances of the strike and the extent of the building’s damage require independent confirmation, the recording underscores the human risks of the continuing attacks on Ukraine’s urban areas.
