Gaming history was made in spectacular fashion as the Red Bull Tetris World Final transformed Dubai’s iconic skyline into the largest playable Tetris game ever created. The landmark event took over the Dubai Frame, where thousands of drones lit up the night sky to celebrate the puzzle game’s 40th anniversary.

On December 13, champions from 60 countries gathered for the global final, culminating months of international competition. The centerpiece of the event was a breathtaking display involving 4,000 synchronized drones forming a massive, real-time Tetris grid visible across the city. The drones responded live to player inputs, turning the sky itself into an interactive game board.

Nineteen-year-old student Fehmi Atalar from Türkiye emerged as the standout competitor in the single-player finale. Atalar delivered a dominant performance, scoring 168,566 points against Peru’s Leo Solórzano, who finished with 57,164 points. During his turns, Atalar controlled 1,400 drones simultaneously, maneuvering falling Tetris blocks with precision as they assembled across the illuminated grid.

The event seamlessly blended classic gaming with cutting-edge technology, showcasing how a game created four decades ago continues to evolve and captivate new generations. Spectators watched as familiar shapes descended from the sky, locking into place in a choreographed display that merged competition, entertainment, and technological innovation.

Red Bull’s production pushed the boundaries of live esports presentation, setting a new benchmark for large-scale interactive events. The successful execution of the drone-powered Tetris match not only honored the game’s enduring legacy but also demonstrated the growing intersection of esports, live performance, and advanced aerial technology.
