October 7, 2023, dramatically changed the way many American Jews experienced news, identity and community—and Jewish media was forced to change with them. Nearly three years later, Ami Eden, president of the American Jewish Press Association and head of 70 Faces Media, describes a prolonged period of growth and renewed attention across national Jewish outlets. The shift reflects a community seeking more information about Israel, antisemitism, security and Jewish identity in an increasingly tense environment. 70 Faces Media itself describes its mission as connecting people to Jewish life through original journalism, ideas and stories across multiple digital brands.

For national Jewish media, the post-October 7 period has created what Eden characterizes as a “prolonged renaissance,” with greater investment in digital journalism and hard-news coverage. Readers who may previously have treated Jewish publications primarily as sources for culture, community announcements or lifestyle content have increasingly turned to them for breaking developments and deeper reporting about issues affecting Jewish life. That demand has pushed outlets to expand their digital presence while trying to provide context that broader mainstream news organizations may not always offer.

But the transformation has not been evenly distributed across the industry. Local Jewish newspapers and community outlets continue to confront familiar structural problems, including shrinking audiences, difficult advertising markets and the broader financial pressures facing traditional journalism. The result is an increasingly complicated media landscape in which national organizations can expand their reach while smaller local publications struggle to maintain the reporting infrastructure needed to serve individual Jewish communities.

Eden’s vision also points toward a media model that goes beyond simply publishing more stories. Partnerships, independent creators and new forms of digital storytelling are becoming increasingly important as Jewish audiences debate politics, Israel, antisemitism, religious identity and the future of Jewish life. The goal is increasingly to function as “digital connective tissue,” creating spaces where different parts of the American Jewish community can encounter one another even as political and ideological divisions become more pronounced.

The deeper question is whether the surge in Jewish media attention after October 7 represents a temporary response to a historic crisis or a permanent transformation in how American Jews consume information about their community. The evidence so far suggests that the appetite for Jewish journalism has not disappeared, but the economics and habits of the audience are changing rapidly. Nearly three years after October 7, American Jewish media is therefore confronting a paradox: a moment of extraordinary journalistic relevance and audience interest is unfolding at the same time that many traditional local outlets remain under intense financial pressure.
