Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich blasted Democrats’ handling of the looming government shutdown during an appearance on Hannity.

Calling the situation “insanity,” Gingrich argued that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is on the “wrong side” of both major issues at play in the funding battle. He accused Democrats of pushing the government toward unnecessary gridlock while ignoring solutions that Republicans say could prevent the crisis.

“The American people deserve better than this kind of political theater,” Gingrich said, warning that the standoff could have wide-ranging consequences if not resolved quickly.

The showdown on Capitol Hill continues as lawmakers race against deadlines to avert a shutdown, with negotiations between both parties showing little sign of progress.
