Ukraine's Security Service successfully used its newly developed interceptor drone against a Russian jet-powered Geran-5 attack drone for the second time in a single day on Saturday, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced. Speaking after a report from acting SBU chief Oleksandr Poklad, Zelensky said SBU military counterintelligence personnel struck the Geran-5, sharing footage of the intercept and thanking the operators for their accuracy. The milestone builds directly on an earlier success the same day, when the same new interceptor downed another jet-powered Russian drone, marking the technology's combat debut against one of Moscow's fastest and most dangerous unmanned threats.

Zelensky said the Armed Forces of Ukraine are now testing four promising interceptor drone models directly on the front line, with roughly ten more manufacturers working on additional designs and 67 Ukrainian companies capable of mass-producing systems built to strike jet-powered targets like the Geran-5. Of those, three to five firms have already demonstrated practical results in the field. The interceptors are aimed squarely at neutralizing Russia's jet-powered Shahed and Geran-series drones, which fly faster and higher than earlier propeller-driven models and have proven far harder for Ukraine's traditional air defenses to bring down, making a reliable, domestically produced counter increasingly urgent as Russian drone barrages continue to intensify.
